• The Farm

As part of the family-owned Brocklesby Estate in the beautiful Lincolnshire Wolds, the in-hand farming operation currently extends to 4400Ha near ring-fenced across a range of soil types.  Cropping consists of arable crops, vining peas, sugarbeet, forage maize, grass and niche crops.  The farm undertakes almost all operations in house, as well as running a 22,000t grainstore, 12,000t straw baling operation and 1MW on-farm anaerobic digester. Other operations include; environmental stewardship, development sites work, some forestry tasks and limited general estate works.  There are exciting plans for expansion and new ventures in the next few years.

    The role

Reporting to the Farms Director, this is a newly created role to ensure the business is suitably resourced as we enter a new and exciting chapter.  You will lead a very high calibre team of arable operators who each have specific expertise and dedicated machines.  You will be responsible for managing all operations the farm undertakes, except for grain storage and AD.  The farm is well equipped with a lean fleet of very modern and top spec machines.

Key objectives for the successful candidate will be to; drive operational efficiency, adopt new technologies, lead safety and to move towards more flexible working arrangements for the whole team (where possible).

While being commercially driven and highly focused we operate with nil corporate bureaucracy, a friendly, flexible and colligate atmosphere and a very quick decision-making process.

This is NOT an assistant manager’s role.  It is a senior role where the successful candidate will be expected to have the confidence and experience to make most operational decisions independently.  This role is necessarily ‘at the coal face’ so will be based in an office in the principal yard and extensively from a farm truck.

    Requirements for success

The right person will be happy to work as first-among-equals rather than commander-in-chief.  Excellent – and proven – organisational and people skills are essential.  A strong work ethic, very good farm-tech skills, problem solving ability, an unflappable demeanour and a love of broadacre agriculture, will be necessary to succeed.

You will be happy and competent to jump on machines and generally be hands-on as required.

This is an intense and challenging role with a high degree of autonomy and responsibility.  It will be exceptionally rewarding for the right person.

    Timescales

The success of this role is critical to the long-term plans for the farm.  We are not forced to appoint anyone immediately and will wait for the right person.

Any communication will be treated in strict confidence. To get in touch, please email s.bedford@brocklesby.co.uk
